Mineral Resources in Ijesa Land
...
Ijesa land, located in the southwestern part of Nigeria within Osun State, is richly endowed with a variety of mineral resources that contribute significantly to both local and national economies. The region is particularly known for its gold deposits, which have attracted both artisanal and commercial mining activities over the years. In recent times, Ilesa and its surrounding communities have witnessed a surge in gold exploration, making the area a key hub for Nigeria’s solid minerals development.
Beyond gold, Ijesa land also contains other valuable minerals such as quartz, feldspar, talc, and granite. These resources have potential uses in industries ranging from construction to manufacturing. The abundance of these natural endowments, if properly managed, can drive economic growth, create jobs, and enhance infrastructure development in the region.
...
However, the exploitation of these minerals also raises concerns about environmental sustainability, land degradation, and the need for community-inclusive development strategies. With proper regulation and investment in sustainable mining practices, Ijesa land has the potential to become a model for resource-based development in Nigeria.
